What is actually known
On 15 July 2026, Raintree Systems, a rehabilitation and physical-therapy EHR vendor, announced its acquisition of Spike Technologies. The announcement describes agentic AI voice for revenue cycle management and patient engagement. It does not mention the wearables API.
As of late July 2026 the API is unchanged in every observable respect: spikeapi.com is live, the documentation is up, pricing still reads $450 per month, and no sunset, deprecation or migration notice appears on their site, docs, changelog, repositories or package registries.
Two things are worth stating precisely because they are easy to misread. Spike’s public release notes stop on 16 April 2026, three months before the acquisition was announced, so that quiet period cannot be attributed to the deal. And we found no public customer commentary of any kind: a search of Hacker News for "Spike Technologies" returns zero results. Anyone telling you customers are fleeing is not working from public evidence.
The most useful thing in your contract is Spike’s own terms of service, which state that should Spike decide to stop offering any or all services, it will give not less than sixty days’ written notice. That is your floor, and it is a reasonable one. The case for evaluating alternatives now is not urgency; it is that the two hardest parts of any migration in this category, re-consenting users and recovering history beyond the backfill window, both get worse the longer you wait.

Is Spike shutting down its wearables API?
No such announcement has been made. As of late July 2026 there is no sunset, deprecation or end-of-life notice on Spike’s site, documentation, changelog, repositories or package registries, and the API is live and for sale at unchanged pricing. What is publicly known is that Raintree Systems acquired Spike Technologies in July 2026, and that the announcement describes a voice AI product for revenue cycle management without mentioning the wearables API. Draw your own conclusions, but do not treat a shutdown as announced, because it has not been.
How much notice would I get?
Spike’s terms of service state that should Spike decide to stop offering any or all services, it will provide written or email notice of not less than sixty days. That is a contractual commitment rather than a guess, and it is worth reading in full alongside your own agreement.
What is actually hard about migrating off Spike?
Three things. Your provider OAuth tokens are not portable, because they are held under Spike’s own client registrations with Garmin, Fitbit, Oura and the rest, so every end user has to re-consent with the new vendor. There is no bulk export endpoint, so a full export means paginated per-user requests. And Spike’s backfill is capped at 90 days, which means any history older than that exists only inside Spike and cannot be reconstituted by a successor from the upstream providers. The practical implication is to export continuously from now rather than at the point you leave.
What is easy about it?
More than you might expect. Spike uses your own user identifiers rather than issuing its own, so there is no proprietary ID mapping to unwind. Metric names are plain snake_case with published units and precision, which makes re-mapping mechanical. And Spike’s privacy policy commits to providing your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format on request.
Which alternative is the closest replacement?
It depends what you used Spike for. If it was direct cloud breadth and lab data, Terra is the nearest like-for-like. If it was the derived scoring layer, note that Spike gated all four scores to Tier 2 and above and published methodology for only one of them, so Sahha or Junction will give you more derived output for less. If it was the nutrition photo analysis, nothing else in this list offers it and you would need a separate vendor.
Should I wait and see?
Waiting is defensible given the sixty-day notice commitment. What is not defensible is waiting without exporting. Start pulling your historical data out now regardless of what you decide, because the 90-day backfill ceiling means the cost of delay is permanent data loss rather than merely inconvenience.
